“I…I thought you liked me.”

Dalton and I both chuckle at Bryson’s whine. We’ve only been walking for ten minutes, but Bryson looks like he’s ready to collapse. Although, in his defense, there’s a reason this hike isn’t frequented by many people. It’s a bit overgrown—different roots and foliage making it difficult to see a clear path—and the several hills do require a certain amount of stamina which Dalton and I don’t lack.

Dalton takes off his backpack and hands it to me. He crouches in front of Bryson. “Okay, love. Hop on.”

Bryson doesn’t hesitate. If anything, he lets out a cute little purr once he wraps himself around Dalton’s back. Since I have my own backpack, I take Dalton’s and place it over my chest.

“So, where are we going?” Bryson asks, his blond hair bobbing with every step Dalton takes.

“It’s a secret,” I say, smirking at the way Dalton groans when Bryson begins planting little kisses on his neck. “Querido, he’s going to drop you if you keep doing that.”

Dalton scoffs, hiking Bryson higher up his back just to show off. “Never.”

“It’s twenty minutes,” I tease, walking backward so I can admire the view of them in front of me. “Sure you can handle that?”

Something tender passes over Dalton’s face, and I don’t think that Bryson catches it. It’s a punch of feeling, something deep and longing, something incredibly heart-warming that makes me break out into a wide smile.

“Yeah,” he says finally, stopping in front of me to rub his nose against mine. “I can handle it.”

Bryson reaches over Dalton’s shoulder and kisses both of our cheeks. “Okay! Let’s go then! Is it a picnic? Are we going to have a picnic? I’ve always wanted to go on one of those. Although, we need to remember to pick up our trash. Did you know that one hundred million pounds of waste are accrued in national parks every year?”

“I didn’t,” I say truthfully, kicking away a fallen branch and opening up a better path for them. “And if I tell you, it’ll ruin the surprise.”

“Let’s get on with it then,” Dalton says, jutting his chin forward.

I lead the way from there, stopping every now and then to kiss one or both of them. Who would have thought this would have been my life? Who could have predicted that I would enjoy being with them so much?

I try to keep myself in check. I’m an act-first-think-later kind of person, so I’m liable to jump in too soon, but I can’t help it. They bring all these mushy serious emotions out of me. I’ve never thought past each individual day but with them, I can picture it so perfectly.

Yeah, we won’t be just dating for a bit if I have anything to say about it.

Once we reach our destination—a nice little clearing that overlooks a mountain ridge—I set our backpacks down. Bryson hops off Dalton’s back to help me unload my backpack, taking out the blanket I packed, and the assortment of foods I snuck in there while they were showering.
